Jimmy Peirson has been drafted into the Australian Ashes squad and will replace Josh Inglis for part of the tour as backup wicketkeeper.
Key points:
- Queensland captain Jimmy Peirson to join the Ashes team as a replacement for Josh Inglis
- Inglis will return to Australia for the birth of her first child
- Inglis is expected to return to the tour at a later date.
Peirson will join the Australian team ahead of the second Test at Lord’s, with Inglis planning to return home for the birth of her first child.
Inglis will rejoin the team in England at a later date.
Peirson’s call-up is well deserved after being one of the most consistent players in Australian state cricket in recent years.
The 30-year-old averaged 34.75 in eight years of first-class cricket and featured in New Zealand’s most recent tour with Australia A.
The Queensland State captain has also spent the last week training with the team in Brisbane.
Australia are also due to name their 15-man squad for the World Test Championship final against India on Sunday, with closer Josh Hazlewood still under a cloud of injuries.
