Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will expand his cabinet today. In the first cabinet expansion, 24 MLAs will be sworn in as ministers. Karnataka minister KH Muniyappa said on Friday that the cabinet expansion would take place on Saturday afternoon and the allocation of portfolios would also be done by evening. Earlier on Friday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi. Eight ministers have already taken oath in Karnataka on May 20, along with the chief minister and his deputy. The Karnataka cabinet can have a total of 34 ministers including the Chief Minister.

The list of ministers likely to take oath today includes Dinesh Gundu Rao, Krishna Byre Gowda, Ishwar Khandre, Rahim Khan, Santosh Lad, KN Rajanna, Piriyapattan Venkatesh, HC Mahadevappa, Byrathi Suresh, C Puttarangshetty. Shivraj Tangdi, RB Timmpur and B Nagendra are all considered close to Siddaramaiah.

Sources said the list of ministers in the expanded cabinet also includes Lakshmi Hebbalkar, Madhu Bangarappa, D Sudhakar, Cheluvaraya Swamy, Manakula Vaidya and MC Sudhakar, all considered close to Shivakumar. He said the list of new ministers would include H K Patil, Sharanaprakash Patil, Shivnana Patil, SS Mallikarjuna besides Sharanbasappa Darshanapura approved by the party high command. Besides this, the name of lone MLC NS Bosaraju has also been approved in the list of new ministers to be inducted in the state cabinet.
