West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided not to attend the NITI Aayog meeting to be held in New Delhi on May 27. A senior official of the State Secretariat gave this information on Wednesday. The Trinamool Congress had announced a day earlier that it would boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building in the national capital. The reason behind Banerjee’s decision not to attend the NITI Aayog meeting is not known. The state secretariat official said, “The Chief Minister of West Bengal will probably not participate in the NITI Aayog meeting to be held in New Delhi on May 27.”
Banerjee had earlier this month expressed her willingness to attend the meeting and said she would highlight the issues of the state which were allegedly being sidelined by the Centre. Later she had said, “I will attend the NITI Aayog meeting on May 27 in New Delhi as it is a platform to raise the issues of the state.” had asked to convene a meeting of opposition parties in Patna later this month so that preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections could be made together. But nothing like this seems to be possible now. Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and Left parties like CPI (M) and CPI announced on Tuesday that they will boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament House on May 28. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said that all political parties have been invited for the inauguration of the new Parliament building and they will take a decision as per their discretion.
