A man has been shot dead by police in sydney after allegedly threatening officers with knives.
Two police officers responded to a call about threatened North Willoughby residents at around 11:30 am today and were allegedly confronted by a man with two knives.
An officer shot the man and he died at the scene, New South Wales police said in a statement.
No other injuries have been reported, but there is a heavy police presence on the scene.
The shooting will be investigated by the Homicide Squad.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
