Pioneering rock and roll icon Tina Turner has died at the age of 83.
Turner rose to fame in the 1960s alongside her late husband, Ike.
The What’s Love Got To Do With It singer would soon emerge from her husband’s shadow and cement a legacy of her own. Ike died in 2007.
Turner would be linked to The Rolling Stones during the early years of his career, and his legacy would be remembered and resonated with the band members. As of this writing, lead singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Ronnie Wood have paid tribute to Turner, who passed away at her home in Switzerland after a “long illness.”

The Rolling Stones had found their footing in the late 1960s, having cultivated an image of the rugged counterpart to The Beatles, and the documentary “Gimme Shelter” would chronicle this period.
The documentary focuses significantly on the band’s ill-fated performance at Altamont Speedway in Tracy, California. Several attendees of the Altamont Free Concert held on December 6, 1969 died after a clash between the public and members of Hells Angels.
“Gimme Shelter” also focuses on the final dates of the Rolling Stones’ tour, including a performance at Madison Square Garden, which would feature Ike and Tina opening the show.
Ike and Tina released a cover of Otis Redding’s “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” on their “Outta Season” LP. In the aftermath of Tina’s passing, the performance would circulate on social media with many praising Tina’s haunting performance. Jagger, who would go on to have a memorable friendship with Tina, flippantly said, “It’s nice to have a girl once in a while,” opening the show.
Twitter users reacted to the performance.
A fan tweeted, “I’ve never listened to Tina Turner much, but I remember being completely in awe when she appeared on ‘Gimme Shelter.’ She basically stole the spotlight from the band that was the focus of the whole damn documentary.”
Other wrote“Tina Turner taught Mick Jagger her trademark swagger. This excerpt from Gimme Shelter showing Tina singing “I’ve been loving you too long” will forever be one of my favorite things on earth. rip queen [black heart].”
she did a lot of other things, but I think what I like best about Tina Turner is that she stole the show in Gimme Shelter; she makes the Stones look like fans
