Mubi has taken over the rights to the acclaimed feature Fallen leaveswritten and directed by Aki Kaurismäki, in a competitive situation, after its world premiere in the Official Competition of the Cannes Film Festival.
While specific details on release plans have yet to be announced, aside from the fact that the title will hit theaters, Mubi said on Wednesday that it has picked up the rights for North America, the UK, Ireland, Latin America and Turkey.
Kaurismäki’s 20th feature film, whose Cannes award-winning The man without a past earned an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 2003, Fallen leaves tells the story of two lonely people (Alma Pöysti, Jussi Vatanen) who meet by chance in the Helsinki night and try to find the first, only and last love of their lives.
