Income tax authorities on Friday launched coordinated searches in different locations across Tamil Nadu linked to the state’s Electricity Minister V Senthil Balaji, police sources said.
The searches were carried out in cities including Karur and Coimbatore, at the premises of people allegedly linked to the minister, the sources said without elaborating.

Close relatives of the minister and some contractors were among those whose premises were being searched by tax authorities.
Balaji, a senior DMK leader from Karur, also holds the Prohibition and Excise portfolio.
Meanwhile, tense moments prevailed in Karur when the wrongdoers allegedly damaged a car used by the Income Tax officials. The windshield was damaged by criminals.

The raids on the places linked to the DMK strongman occurred at a time when Chief Minister MK Stalin is on an official trip abroad.
