In Punjab, major action has been taken against those who take SIM cards with fake IDs. Police have blocked over 1.8 lakh SIM cards activated using fake identities and forged documents. The police have taken this step to curb the menace of issuing SIM cards on fake IDs. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Thursday that 500 SIM cards have been issued by creating fake documents with the same photo but in different names.
Action started against distribute-agents
The Internal Security Wing in association with the Department of Telecom has initiated action against distributors and agents selling SIM cards on fake IDs. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that action is being initiated against point of sales distributors, agents and others who issue SIM cards on fake IDs. The police have arrested 17 people found involved in the sale of SIM cards on fake documents, besides registering 52 FIRs in the last three days.
Campaign to identify SIM cards
Special DGP (Internal Security) R.N. Dhoke said that he has held several meetings with the Department of Telecom and telecom service providers. After this action has been taken. He further said that Inspector General of Police (Counter Intelligence) Rakesh Agarwal has been made the nodal officer and a drive is on to identify SIM cards issued on fake IDs.
