Xtra Time Web Desk: The Cricket Board of Control is planning to field a second team for the proposed white ball series against Afghanistan. The three-match ODI series will likely be played between the World Test Championship final and India’s tour of the Caribbean. There is a chance that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could rest.
All the Indian cricketers took part in a grueling IPL 2023 season. The Test team players will travel immediately one day after the final to London for the ICC World Test Championships final against Australia to be played at the Oval from 7 to 11th of June.
The selectors are toying with the idea of resting some top-flight cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma before traveling to the Caribbean for a full tour against the West Indies involving two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.
With the only window for the Afghanistan series being June 20-30, BCCI may have to squeeze the series during this time and play a second-string team led by Hardik Pandya. Afghanistan Cricket Board Chairman Mirwais Ashraf, who is in India for the 2023 IPL final, will meet BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and end the white ball series.
