After the departure of the Mumbai Indians from LPI 2023Rohit Sharma will now focus on leading India in the World Test Championship final against Australia next month, and he hopes the Gujarat Titans superstar shubman gill brings his rich streak of form to the big game in London.
Gill scored his third century of this edition of the IPL, a 60-ball 129, which led Gujarat to a victory of defending the title they won in their debut season last year.
GT (233/3) beat Mumbai (171 overall) by 62 runs and will take on MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the final on Sunday. Mohit Sharma (5/10) starred with the ball for GT with a haul of five wickets.
Rohit said that Gill made the difference in their loss to Gujarat Titans in IPL Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad and he hoped the opening match would continue his purple stain in the colors of India.
He end of the world trade center begins June 7 at The Oval.
“Shubman batted well, the wicket was good. They got 20-25 extra. We were positive after the first half. We have to give Shubman credit. I hope he continues that way,” he said.
Rohit said Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green raised some hope with their partnership, but he felt MI lost the game on the power play while chasing.
“Greeny and Surya hit well, but we lost our way. We wanted to give him a good chance, be positive. We couldn’t get on the power play. We wanted a batsman, like Gujarat did, and take the game deep where anything can happen in a good field and in a terrain with a small limit. But thanks to GT, that played well”, said.
The IM captain said Ishan Kishan’s concussion did not help the team in their pursuit either.
“Kishan’s concussion was unexpected. It was a last-minute change. We had to adapt to different conditions and situations. However, we didn’t look at it,” he said.
He preferred to get positive things out of the campaign despite not qualifying for the final.

Red-hot Shubman Gill snapped his third century of the IPL season to help defending champions Gujarat Titans beat Mumbai Indians by 62 runs on Friday and set up a final against Chennai Super Kings.
Gill’s 126 off 60 balls propelled Gujarat to 233/3, a total which they defended by bowling five-time winners Mumbai for 171 in 18.2 overs in Qualifier 2 which started late due to rain in Ahmedabad.
Gill hit 10 sixes on her strike and moved into a second-wicket stand of 138 with Sai Sudharsan (43), to break the MI attack.
Gill became the best batsman this season with 851 runs, surpassing RCB captain Faf du Plessis (730), before reaching his best IPL mark and highest score this season.
Starter Gill made the most of a breather in the 30th when Tim David knocked him off of Chris Jordan.
Gill, 23, raised his fifty in 32 balls and then exploded to crush sixes to reach his hundred in 49 balls.
Gill eventually fell to Akash Madhwal and Sudharsan retired before captain Hardik Pandya (28*), and Rashid Khan finished the innings with 19 runs in the final over.
Mumbai’s concerns increased when Ishan Kishan was injured by teammate Jordan’s elbow and was later replaced by concussion substitute Vishnu Vinod.
Mohit Sharma took five wickets for Gujarat after a gutsy 61 from Suryakumar Yadav.
Tilak Varma hit 43 for 14 balls as he smashed Mohammed Shami with four fours and a six in one over, but was soon brought down by Rashid.
Suryakumar made a key 51-run stand with Cameron Green, who batted 30 in an intermittent innings after being hit on the elbow by Pandya.
Suryakumar made his fifty in 33 balls but was brought down by Mohit, who struck twice in one to derail the innings.
Rashid caught Tim David lbw for two and hopes are over for Mumbai, who last won the trophy in 2020.
The final will be played on Sunday at the same venue between the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and the defending champions Gujarat Titans.
“Playing this game, qualifying and going this far is great, the batting has been very positive that we can carry into next season. Every bowling team has been challenged.
“We had a great performance last game. Tim (David) has been given a role this season,” he said.
Winning captain Hardik Pandya said Gill’s clarity of thought in hitting is helping him rack up runs.
“I think the clarity and confidence he has is amazing. Today’s inning was one of the best, he was never rushed. It felt like someone was throwing balls and he was batting. He’s going to be a superstar in international cricket and franchise”. Hardik said.
