The RRTS or RAPIDX trains have a design speed of 180 km/h and will run at a maximum operating speed of 160 km/h, which makes them semi-high speed trains. With an average speed of 100 km/h, the RAPIDX trains will be much faster than the Delhi Metro and Indian Railways trains.
RRTS Trains: Main Features of the Delhi-Meerut Train at 160 km/h | India’s first RAPIDX regional rapid train
TOI visited the Duhai depot of the RRTS project where ‘Make in India’ train sets are being tested. Watch the video above for a detailed view (interiors and exteriors) of the RRTS trains and find out what special features passengers can expect. Also check the roadmap to find out which regions will be covered by the RRTS Delhi-Meerut project.
Each set of air-conditioned trains will have 6 carriages with seats in the 2 by 2 configuration. 5 of them will be Standard coaches and 1 Premium; Of the 5 Standard coaches, 1 will be reserved for women.
The features of the Premium coach, as highlighted in the video above, suggest that it is aimed at business class passengers. The entrance to the premium car will be through a separate door on the platform and even inside the train, the car will be isolated from other cars with the help of a door. The passenger entry and exit mechanism of the RRTS trains will also be different from that of the metro services.
The RRTS project is being implemented by the National Capital Region Transportation Corporation (NCRTC). To begin with, a priority section between Duhai and Sahibabad is expected to come into operation soon.
The RRTS Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut project spans 82 kilometers and is scheduled to be fully operational by 2025.
