When Juggernaut shows up, Deadpool has a fanboy moment. He loves the Juggernaut and admires the destruction the supervillain can inflict. Just like in the original Marvel comics, Juggernaut wears a special helmet that allows his wall-walking powers to work without hurting him. In “Deadpool 2”, the helmet left most of his face obscured. The character also spoke in a deep, artificially modulated voice. Due to him being about nine feet tall, the Juggernaut was done visually using CGI.
Looking closely, one could make out Ryan Reynolds’ features through the mask. The voice is also yours. Reynolds explained that the casting of him was essentially a cost-saving measure:
“‘Deadpool 2’ is being shot for a lot less money than most superhero movies. […] As with all movies, you want to finish on budget and on time, which we did, but just barely. So, we couldn’t even afford a voice for Juggernaut. The voice of Juggernaut is me. I just did it as a temp, this kind of Brooklyn wrestler voice that we modulated in the post, and turned it on and gave it all this bass and reverb. We didn’t settle for that because it was quality. We decided on that because we just didn’t have any more budget to jump into.”
The Juggernaut proves to be a formidable foe that requires a lot to knock him unconscious. Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) has to push an electrical cable up… a certain part of the Juggernaut’s anatomy while Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and his girlfriend Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna) push him into a pool using chains and explosions supernatural.
Reynolds, however, hopes to have survived.
