A killer concept. After the success of the Shout franchise, MTV introduced a longer-term slasher concept in the form of a television series.

The producer noted that the TV series focused on getting the audience invested in the central story. “With this show, we really wanted to start with the characters and this incredible cast and have you take care of them and fall in love with them, so you encourage them to survive,” Blotevogel continued. “A lot of times, in a horror movie, you don’t have enough time to get to know them well enough to care that much. We want to maintain that uncertainty. We want to keep people off balance, so they don’t necessarily know when, if or how someone might die.”
For him Harper’s Island alum, the “more complicated aspects” of Shout It came with the murders. “As soon as you create characters and start working with them, you fall in love with them, as a writer and producer as well. It has been very difficult to do that,” he added at the time.

He True Blood alum also talked about what kind of ending he would have liked for his character. “I’m only speaking for myself, but I feel like the other actors would say the same thing, we were just trying to do the best we could within this framework and make this TV version something different and interesting,” Young explained. “I feel like there could have been a really cool episode where we all die.
