First of all, let us tell you that on the morning of May 21, Kuldeep Singh shared a post on Twitter, in which he told that his XUV700 car suddenly caught fire while the car was on the Jaipur highway. He wrote in his tweet, “Thank you for risking my family’s life with your most premium product (XUV700). Car caught fire while driving on Jaipur highway. Car didn’t overheat, in moving car Smoke came, then it caught fire.”
Subsequently, on 22 May, Mahindra issued an official statement saying that preliminary investigation into the fire revealed that the factory-fitted/original wiring of the vehicle had been tampered with to fit aftermarket accessories. After completing the investigation into the incident, the automaker has now issued another statement, confirming that the fire was caused by the addition of several aftermarket accessories by the owner.
The statement read (translated), “Our investigation into the XUV700 thermal incident in Jaipur came to an end last evening. Investigators found the car owner tampering with the car’s original wiring circuit module with after-market illuminated scuff plates and four ambient lighting fitments.” Evidence has been found that additional wiring connections have been made to existing electrical points, which may have led to a thermal incident. The car owner has been informed about the investigation via email.”
There is no comment from the car owner confirming the addition of aftermarket accessories.
At the time of the incident, the Mahindra XUV700 was reportedly six months old and the owner was traveling along with his family on the Jaipur Expressway. However, the good thing is that the victim and his family were not hurt, but the fire completely gutted the SUV.
